The Indian Government has also come up with various mobile apps meant for specific functions in line with the Digital India initiative. Some of these apps are for particular sections of society, like apps for students, teachers, women, farmers, etc. while some apps are for the general public. The main purpose of launching these apps is to provide people with faster services without much bureaucratic intervention. Here, we are listing some of the popular mobile apps launched by the Indian government. Some of these apps can be extremely useful in emergency situations. By using them you can solve your problems without visiting any government office. The general public should download these apps to resolve critical issues that involve government functionaries.
Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG), is a Government of India all-in-one single unified secure multi-channel multi-platform multi-lingual multi-service freeware mobile app for accessing over 841 services through 127 department central and state government services in multiple Indian languages over Android, iOS, Windows and services such as AADHAR, DigiLocker, Bharat Bill Payment System, PAN, EPFO services, PMKVY services, AICTE, CBSE, tax and fee or utilities bills payments, education, job search, tax, business, health, agriculture, travel, birth certificates, e-District, passport and much more. This a key component of Digital India government initiative to make all traditional offline government services available 24/7 online through single unified app. App is initially available in 13 language and will replace or complement 1500 apps launched by the government so far. Progressively more services will be brought online. This e-Gov service can be accessed via multiple channels, such as mobile app, IVR, website, etc. User numbers will be boosted by the roll out of BharatNet. Users can Create and update Profile, Sort & Filter through categories and services, or search to access relevant services while on the move.
Digital India Mission
Digital India is a campaign launched by the Government of India in order to ensure the Government’s services are made available to citizens electronically by improved online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity or making the country digitally empowered in the field of technology. The initiative includes plans to connect rural areas with high-speed internet networks. Digital India consists of three core components: the development of secure and stable digital infrastructure, delivering government services digitally, and universal digital literacy.
Launched on 1 July 2015, by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is both enabler and beneficiary of other key Government of India schemes, such as BharatNet, Make in India, Startup India and Standup India, industrial corridors, Bharatmala, Sagarmala
As of 31 December 2018, India had a population of 130 crore people (1.3 billion), 123 crore (1.23 billion) Aadhaar digital biometric identity cards, 121 crore (1.21 billion) mobile phones, 44.6 crore (446 million) smartphones, 56 crore (560 million) internet users up from 481 million people (35% of the country’s total population) in December 2017, and 51 per cent growth in e-commerce.
Start Up India
Startup India is an initiative of the Government of India. The campaign was first announced by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his speech in 15 August 2015 address from the Red Fort, in New Delhi.The action plan of this initiative is focussing on three areas:
Simplification and Handholding.
Funding Support and Incentives.
Industry-Academia Partnership and Incubation.An additional area relating to this initiative is to discard restrictive States Government policies within this domain, such as License Raj, Land Permissions, Foreign Investment Proposals, and Environmental Clearances. It was organized by The Department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPI&IT).A startup defined as an entity that is headquartered in India, which was opened less than 10 years ago, and has an annual turnover less than ₹100 crore (US$14 million). Under this initiative, the government has already launched the I-MADE program, to help Indian entrepreneurs build 10 lakh (1 million) mobile app start-ups, and the MUDRA Bank’s scheme (Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana), an initiative which aims to provide micro-finance, low-interest rate loans to entrepreneurs from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Initial capital of ₹20,000 crore (equivalent to ₹230 billion or US$3.2 billion in 2019) has been allocated for this scheme.
Stand Up India
Stand-Up India was launched by Government of India on 5 April 2016 to support entrepreneurship among women and SC & ST communities.
It is similar to but distinct from Startup India. Both are enabler and beneficiary of other key Government of India schemes, such as Make in India, Industrial corridor, Dedicated Freight Corridor, Sagarmala, Bharatmala, UDAN-RCS, Digital India, BharatNet and UMANG.
Aarogya Setu is a mobile application developed by the Government of India to connect essential health services with the people of India in our combined fight against COVID-19. The App is aimed at augmenting the initiatives of the Government of India, particularly the Department of Health, in proactively reaching out to and informing the users of the app regarding risks, best practices and relevant advisories pertaining to the containment of COVID-19.
MyGov is a citizen engagement platform founded by the Government of India to promote the active participation of Indian citizens in their country’s governance and development. It is aimed at creating a common platform for Indian citizens to “crowdsource governance ideas from citizens”. Its users discuss and contribute to various government projects and plans. It also allows users to upload documents in various formats. The website is hosted and managed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the aim was to reduce the long gap developed between the electorate and the Executive after being elected.
With the goal of reaching out to large numbers of smartphone users, the new mAadhaar is released by the Unique Identification Authority of India. The App features an array of Aadhaar services and a personalized section for the Aadhaar holder who can carry their Aadhaar information in form of a soft copy, instead of carrying a physical copy all the time.
BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is an Indian mobile payment App developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Named after B. R. Ambedkar and launched on 30 December 2016, it is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks and drive towards cashless transactions.
DigiLocker is an Indian digitization online service provided by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India under its Digital India initiative. DigiLocker provides an account in cloud to every Aadhaar holder to access authentic documents/certificates such as driving license, vehicle registration, academic mark sheet in digital format from the original issuers of these certificates. It also provides 1GB storage space to each account to upload scanned copies of legacy documents.
Aayakar Setu App
Aaykar Setu – It’s a free mobile application. It provides linkage to various services of the Income-tax Department through a single window.
The Utilities of Aaykar Setu are:
• Ask IT – A CHATBOT provides answer to the queries raised by taxpayers in no-time.
• TPS Vertical – The taxpayer can locate the nearby TPS offices

• Tax Gyaan – A game to enable the users to learn about Income Tax by just playing a game. It’s a Multiple Choice Question based game to provide knowledge to the users. The game is divided into 4 levels Beginner, Normal, Hard, and Difficult.
This app provides a platform for the Indian Consumers to give their suggestions and lodge their grievances, if any, to the Department of Consumer Affairs and seek remedial action.
GST Rate Finder App
The government launched an app called GST Rate Finder. The app has been developed by The Central Board of Excise and Custom (CBEC).

The Swachhata-MoHUA is the official app of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs(MoHUA), GOI. The app enables a citizen to post a civic-related issue (eg; a garbage dump) which is then forwarded to the city corporation concerned and thereafter assigned to the sanitary inspector of the particular ward. The app has been built by IChangeMyCity – a division of Janaagraha, a Bengaluru based non-profit working to improve the quality of life in India’s cities and towns.
The 112 SOS Mobile App is a part of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), a Govt of India initiative. In an emergency situation, a person in distress may seek for the assistance of local emergency service delivery departments and volunteers through the App. The App will send emergency alerts with the user’s details(name, age, emergency contacts) and location information, along with a generated call to ‘112’ – to the State Emergency Control Room and the person’s emergency contacts. The system forwards the emergency alert to nearby online local volunteers if available. The emergency alert is notified with an audible sound/ visual alert on the volunteer smartphones. The volunteers can mark their consent to help and the volunteer details along with photo and contact number will be forwarded to the person in distress.
Bharat ke Veer
Bharat Ke Veer mobile app is an initiative for the citizens to pay homage to the bravehearts in Central Armed Police Forces who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Using this app, individuals can contribute directly into the bank accounts of the braveheart’s kin, or to the “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus. To ensure maximum coverage, a cap of 15 lakhs is envisaged per braveheart and the donor would be alerted if the amount exceeds Rs 15 lakhs, so that they can choose to either decrease their contribution or divert part of the donation to another braveheart’s account, or to the “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus.

Kisan Suvidha is an omnibus mobile app developed to help farmers by providing relevant information to them quickly. National Agriculture Market (NAM) is a pan-India electronic trading portal promoted by a Government of India which networks the existing mandis to create a unified national market for agricultural commodities. Purpose of the mobile App is to facilitate remote bidding by traders and access to arrivals and price related information to farmers and other stakeholders on their smartphones.
‘Self4Society’ is the first of its kind mobile based platform that has been imagined with the idea of streamlining the government identified domains, the social activities of the corporates and their employees. ‘Self4Society’ empowers employees to participate in initiatives as per their preference under broad areas identified by the government, and the corporates aimed at giving back to the society.
Govt eProcurement System - NIC
Government eProcurement System of National Informatics centre, GePNIC Mobile App provides convenient, easy and free access to tenders published on the Central Public Procurement Portal. This app provides details of eTenders published by various entities of Government of India through the Central Public Procurement Portal. Basic and important details of tenders are made accessible through the app and access to complete tender information is free. The users may also visit www.eprocure.gov.in for additional details.
MAUSAM is a Mobile App of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India to provide seamless and user-friendly access to weather products available on https://mausam.imd.gov.in/. Users can access observed weather, forecasts, radar images and be proactively warned of impending weather events. The app’s development and deployment is being led jointly by ICRISAT’s Digital Agriculture & Youth (DAY) team and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) under the Monsoon Mission program of MoES.
Ayushman Bharat App
Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), is a flagship scheme of Government of India to provide cashless secondary and tertiary care treatment from the empanelled public and private hospitals providing coverage to more than 10 crore poor and vulnerable beneficiary families.
National Health Authority (NHA) is the apex body responsible for the implementation of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY.
DIKSHA - Platform for School Education
The DIKSHA platform offers teachers, students and parents engaging learning material relevant to the prescribed school curriculum. UDYAM Bharat App
Welcome to the official GOI App ‘Udyam-DPE’ for Central Public Sector Enterprises conceptualized by Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) and developed by National e-Governance Division (NeGD) for Government of India.The CPSEs play a significant role in the growth of Indian economy besides promoting business excellence, regional development and meeting social development goals. This App serves as a tool to monitor the improvements in sanitation coverage in rural India, on a real time basis. The eBasta App provides for navigation and management of the bastas downloaded from the eBasta portal (http:///www.ebasta.in). It renders the bastas created by the portal framework for easy navigation by the student on any android tablet/phone. The navigation of the resources in the app is as defined by the teacher/school in the eBasta structure.

Indian Police At Your Call App
The Indian Police at Your Call App is a GIS Map based interface for the citizens to locate police stations near to their current location so that they can easily “reach” the police station in case of emergency. The App displays the current location of the citizen on the Map along with details such as name of places, roads and major landmarks. The App dynamically fetches details of all the police stations near the location of the citizen and can be refreshed at regular intervals.
Voter Helpline App
Taking forward its continuous efforts of building an active democratic citizenry in the country, Election Commission of India has undertaken a new initiative by designing a Mobile Application for developing a culture of avid electoral engagement and making informed and ethical ballot decisions among citizens of the country. The app aims to provide a single point of service and information delivery to voters across the country.
