The FIFA World Cup, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), is an international association football competition played by senior men’s national teams of members of the game’s global governing body. The FIFA World Cup is held once every four years after the inaugural tournament in 1930, but was not held in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II. The defending champions are the French national football team that won the 2018 World Cup tournament in their home state of France.
About the current format of the tournament, 32 teams were involved in the title competition on the grounds of different cities of the host country (which is not sure for each time). In previous tournaments this number has been increasing. The final stage is called the final of the World Cup. Currently, the qualification for the World Cup games is based on the previous three-year records of the teams or the rankings awarded based on the game.
The 19 World Cup tournaments have been won by eight different national teams. Brazil has won the maximum five times and the Brazilian team is the only team to play in every tournament. It was followed by Italy and Germany with four titles, Argentina and Uruguay with two titles and England, France and once Spain.
The FIFA World Cup is one of the most widely watched sports tournaments in the world. An estimated 71,51,00,000 people watched the final match of the 2007 World Cup held in Germany.
