Maulvi Syed Aluddin

Maulvi Syed Allauddin alias Syed Allauddin Hyder was the son of Hafizullah, born in 1824 in the Nalgonda district of present-day Telangana State. He was a resident of Hyderabad of Andhra Pradesh. He was a preacher and Imam of Makkah (Mecca) Masjid, Hyderabad. He became one of the leaders of the rebels of the First War of Independence in 1857. Turrebaz Khan’s nickname ‘Turum Khan’ in Dakhani Urdu to this day is synonymous with courage and valor.

He took part in the revolt by organizing an armed force of about 500 Rohillas and Arabs in association with Turrebaaz Khan. He decided to attack the British Forces when the British arrested Zamindar Chedda Khan and locked him in the Residency building of Hyderabad. On 17 July 1857 after the Namaz, Maulvi Allauddin along with his friend Turrebaz Khan and about 500 other freedom fighters attacked the British Residency Building.
