Jitendra Nath Chakrabarti

Jitendra Nath Chakraborty was a hero of the Indian freedom movement who remained unrecognized. He was born on 1.08.1917, in undivided Bengal, specifically in Bikrampur near Dhaka, which is presently located in Bangladesh. However, he was known by the pseudonym Ganesh Chandra Chakraborty.

He was deeply involved in various freedom-fighting movements and believed in the use of armed revolution. As a result, he was a staunch supporter of ‘Masterda’ Surya Sen and was inspired by his approach of direct revolt against the British Government. In 1940, Jitendra Nath Chakraborty and his followers attacked the Bikrampur Police Station, despite being poorly armed and trained, relying solely on their immense bravery and determination. The fight was uneven, and they quickly ran out of cartridges and shells. Sadly, Jitendra Nath was injured by a shell fired by the British police during the fight.
